The Genessee Diary by Henri Nouwen

Heather Gray

Henri is a Catholic priest who has taught at several theological institutions and Universities in his home country of the Netherlands & in the US. He chose to live for 7mths in a Trappist Monastery, not as a guest but as a monk participating fully in the daily life of the Abbey of the Genesee in upstate New York, - in work and in prayer.
From the early weeks at the Abbey, dominated by conflicting desires & concerns, to the final days of Advent, where he found a new sense of calm expectation, Nouwen never loses his critical honesty. Insightful, compassionate, often humorous, & always realistic ‘ The Genesee Diary’ is both an inspiration & a challenge to those who are in search of themselves.
As a journal & diary keeper myself, I became easily involved, interested and expectant of his daily entries. Thank you Henri. Thank you Lord.
